Premiere of “Terra Vil”, Luís Campos’ first fiction feature film

February 26 - March 10
Free

This Thursday, February 26th, “Terra Vil”, Luís Campos’ first fiction feature film, arrives in cinemas across the country. In Portimão, the film will be shown on the commercial circuit of Cinemas Algarcine. This Thursday’s session is scheduled for 9:30 pm and at the end of the screening, there will be a conversation between Luís Campos, award-winning filmmaker, and the audience.

The premiere is of special interest to the local public, since director Luís Campos lived for a long period in Portimão, the city where he maintains his production company, Matiné. This strong connection to the region is reflected in the author’s desire to promote this special session and debate with the public after the screening.

“Terra Vil” evokes the collective memory of the tragedy of the fall of the Entre-os-Rios bridge, focusing on the story of João, a 12-year-old boy who lives on the banks of the Douro with his father, António, a vulnerable man marked by alcoholism. Together with a neighboring family, they form a dysfunctional nucleus united by ancestral fishing and lamprey sales.

The film is described as a profound composition about the social and economic life of Portugal in the first decades of the twenty-first century, balancing the weight of personal ghosts with a spiritual communion with nature.

With a cast that brings together renowned names such as Ruben Gomes, Lúcia Moniz and José Martins, the film also marks the debut of William Cesnek. Before reaching the commercial circuit, “Terra Vil” toured important international festivals, with passages at the São Paulo International Festival, Tallinn Black Nights and Gothenburg.

The work premieres in conjunction with the National Cinema Plan (PNC), which strongly recommends the film for young audiences, highlighting its cultural and artistic relevance. Luís Campos is already a household name in the national cinematographic panorama, being the author of works such as Carga (2017), Boca Cava Terra (2022) and Monte Clérigo (2023).
