Exhibition of the 25th Portimão Photographic Race

As part of the Portimão City Day Celebrations, this exhibition presents the award-winning works of the 2025 edition, which resumed the pioneering spirit of the first race, in 2001. With participants of various nationalities and creative proposals in different modalities, the exhibition reaffirms the cultural and international dimension of this project, which celebrates the photographic look at the city and its heritage.

This year, the 25th. The Photographic Race took place on the 16th and 17th of May with an original format in which it was intended to celebrate and remember the spirit of the 1st Photographic Race, proposing a model of race inspired by its 1st edition of 2001, including the 24 and 12 hour modalities.

With the registration of the 24 images that make up Modality 1 (24 hours) and the 12 images in Modality 2 (12 hours), three winners resulted in each of the Modalities, whose exhibition of the works will be on display at the Museum, until March 29, 2026.

The participants were challenged to photograph the same 24 themes of the first edition of 2001, between 8:00 p.m. on May 16 and 8:00 p.m., on May 17, in the following themes:

1-Luminous points; 2- Shadows and silhouettes; 3- Illuminated windows or shop windows?; 4- Letters of light; 5- Not everything is darkness…; 6- People of the night; 7- Shiny surface; 8- Objects; 9- Arade River; 10- Bridge; 11- Boats; 12- Reflections on the water; 13- Largo da Barca; 14- Nature; 15- Sculpture; 16- Old house; 17- Red among other colors; 18- This door is interesting; 19- They look like vertical lines; 20- Stone or rock doesn’t matter!; 21- And the wave so close; 22- From bottom to top; 23- Notice this detail; 24- Between the sea and the sky, there is…

 This initiative of the Museum of Portimão registered, in the aforementioned two modalities, the registration of 71 photography lovers, not only from the Algarve, but from various parts of the country and from 10 different nationalities, giving this initiative a strong international dimension,

The winning works of each theme, can be seen free of charge, from the day of its inauguration on December 13, until March 29, at the Museum of Portimão, every Tuesday, from 14:30 pm to 18:00 pm and from Wednesday to Sunday, between 10:00 am and 18:00 pm.

This initiative of the Municipality and the Museum of Portimão has the support of GAMP – Group of Friends of the Museum of Portimão, ANAFA – Association of Photographers of the Algarve, CLCC, Restinga Restaurant and the newspaper Sul Informação.
