Caribe Libre – Raul Reyes, Osvaldo Pegudo and Algarve Jazz Orchestra

“Caribe Libre” is a vibrant repertoire that invites Raul Reys (vocals) and Osvaldo Pegudo (percussion) to lead a program dedicated to Latin music and its deep connections with Jazz. It was Dizzy Gillespie who, by integrating Latin musicians from New York and their Afro-Caribbean rhythms, paved the way for the birth of Latin Jazz — a fusion that quickly spread throughout the Caribbean, influencing generations of composers and performers.
The concert opens with Manteca, one of the most emblematic themes of Latin Jazz, presented in the original orchestration of Dizzy Gillespie’s big band. This is followed by classics such as Bilongo, Contigo en la Distancia and Mambo Nº 5, among other striking themes, which run through rhythms such as the cha-cha-chá, the bolero and the mambo.” Caribe Libre” is, therefore, an intense musical journey full of Caribbean flavor, led by the voice and hands of two great Cuban musicians: Raul Reys and Osvaldo Pegudo.
