“Algarve Roots”, painting on display at CMTG
June 6
Free
This exhibition presents a set of works by the artist Jorge Dias, whose visual production results from a deep affective and experiential connection to the Algarve territory.
The images now on display reflect memories and experiences associated with five locations in the Algarve, which marked different phases of the artist’s life. His trajectory began in Senhora da Rocha, continuing through Santa Catarina da Fonte do Bispo and the Tavira area, until he settled in Portimão, at the age of eight. It was in this last urban and fishing context that Jorge Dias deepened his look at the work of the sea and the dynamics of the riverside area, elements that significantly mark his artistic production.
With a particular interest in the popular architecture of the region, his work often incorporates motifs such as platbands, chimneys and traditional facades, in an enhancement of the Algarve’s built heritage. At the same time, nautical elements — namely typical vessels such as “barges”, trawlers and envoys — gain expression in his watercolor and acrylic compositions, revealing the symbiosis between maritime daily life and the author’s artistic sensibility.
The inauguration will take place on June 6, at 6:00 pm, at Casa Manuel Teixeira Gomes.
