The “Mó” (or millstone) that can still be seen in this square in Portimão city centre is the legacy of an old olive oil factory that was once here – the Lagar do Mariano.
A point of passage where, at the end of the 19th century, pitchers of water were sold, the olive mill was decommissioned in the 1970s and the millstone was acquired by the Municipality. A few years later it was placed in the centre of the square that is named after it.
