World Tree Day with Puppet Theater at the Municipal Library
March 21
Free
On World Tree Day, which is also Poetry and Puppet Day, the Manuel Teixeira Gomes Municipal Library, in partnership with the Pedagogical Farm of Portimão, offer puppet theater to schools.
On this day, an original story will be presented, with the title “Eat an orange!” created from the Orange of the Algarve and the trips to the East made by the Portuguese many centuries ago, bringing new products to Portugal.
Teatro Joaquim presents the play to the Schools (1st cycle students) and also at the Municipal Library of Portimão for the general public.
Synopsis:
Friar Julião doesn’t stop sneezing and no longer knows what to do. His great friend, Donkey Carrots, insists “Eat an orange!” But the oranges are so bitter that Friar Julião can’t eat even one until the end. But soon they will travel and there is no way Julião will get better from his cold. The two set off on an expedition to the East, in the name of the King of Portugal, in search of new products and new cultures. Upon arriving in China, Julian meets his great friend Xiaoming, who upon seeing Friar Julian constipated tells him “Eat an orange!”. Friar Julião resists, because oranges are bitter… but accedes to your friend’s request. And what is his surprise when, when tasting the Orange from China, he realizes that it is very sweet! But how is it possible? The answer lies in the Forbidden City and its Emperor. Will Julião be able to bring sweet oranges to the other side of the world? It also appeals to children’s creativity and imagination, concentration and focus, and thus they build the narrative of the show. Being active participants in the story, they help Friar Julião and other characters throughout the adventure
