World Bee Day marked in Portimão

May 20 - May 24

Free

As part of World Bee Day, the Pedagogical Farm of Portimão, with the support of the Manuel Teixeira Gomes Municipal Library, will install the first School Bioteca in the Alvor Kindergarten. Then the activity “Cuscas” will take place, based on the book with the same name, carried out with beekeeper Paulo Santos.

The Manuel Teixeira Gomes Municipal Library will “feed” the Bioteca with books offered by the community, in partnership with the School Library of that School Group.

With the placement of the Bioteca it is intended to support the local biodiversity around the Alvor Kindergarten and contribute to the conservation of pollinating insects.

The Bioteca is a wooden structure with a double function: a small repository of books available to all children in the form of exchange and/or offer and a flower box equipped with vegetative species that help the pollination of plants through bees, butterflies, as well as other flying insects that contribute to the survival of the ecosystem.

Also on May 20, at 9:00 pm, the activity “A Beekeeper in the Library” will take place.

Paulo Santos will hold a session at the Manuel Teixeira Gomes Municipal Library, special for farmers and beekeepers, but also for the public interested in the subject. Paulo Santos, based on his experience as a beekeeper, will draw attention to the great importance of pollination and bees in ecosystems, without which several agricultural products would not exist. To complement the sharing of knowledge, in this session there will be a tasting of honey, mead and sparkling honey.

May 24 at 11:00 am, na Pedagogical Farm will take place “The Life of a Hive” – Activity presented by Maria Cachucha.

In this activity, a partnership between the Pedagogical Farm and the Municipal Library, each child/family can count on music and playful-pedagogical activities. There will also be a culinary experience sweetened with delicious honey from the bees.
