“Wanderings in my street”

June 4 - June 30

Free

The AEMTG is part of and is a reflection of a city/municipality that has been characterized by the multicultural mosaic that it houses, not only with seasonal tourism, which receives people from all latitudes, but also with the most permanent migratory movements. By looking at this cultural dynamic, it was understood that it would be an asset to take a new look at the place where one lives, studies and/or works. An individual/subjective/affective “look” of our students to reach a collective and artistic look at the topographic and human geography of this “Portimão: between people and cultures (Identity/Freedom/Democracy)”, this being the theme of the AEMTG School Cultural Project.

The genesis activity of the PCE was “Wanderings in my street”, which arose from the work, in the classroom, of the study of Cesário Verde, the poet who wandered around Lisbon and poetized it through his lyrical and critical gaze. Manuel Teixeira-Gomes also composed beautiful texts about his city and from here this way of seeing the city of Portimão expanded in a creative process in various artistic languages – plastic (installation of chairs),  performative and digital (documentary video of the process) to be developed with the support of a pedagogical artist, with the group of PLNM students and with the students of the 12th P class of ESMTG.

This is one of the literary visions resulting from Manuel Teixeira-Gomes’ affective memory of the city where he was born:

Portimão (…), is not seen from the sea: it is confined to the basin of the river Arade, leaning almost against the slopes of the mountain, which serves as its background, and bordering a picturesque village, in the shape of a pyramid, which is called Ferragudo. (…)

In Praia da Rocha. The atmosphere is so crystalline, so ethereally pure that everything seems to be stuck in enamel: the rocks, the sea, the sky; the fields; the translucent sinople spots of carob trees; the risks of Saturnino “kaoli” of the branched fig trees, but without leaves; the hints of “ripoli” still fresh from the whitewashed houses… (…).”
