“Visual Narratives of Interculturality Inspired by Soheila Sokhanvari”
June 4 - June 30
Free
This exhibition presents the works of the students of the 12th grade of Visual Arts at the Manuel Teixeira Gomes Secondary School, within the scope of the Drawing A discipline and developed from a project inspired by the work of the British artist – Iranian Soheila Sokhanvari. Starting from their symbolic approach and their look
at interculturality, human rights and collective memory, the students created visual compositions that explore the encounter between cultures and identities.
Known for her small-format work, reminiscent of Persian miniatures, Soheila Sokhanvari uses meticulous techniques and symbolic materials to address political and social themes. Inspired by this approach, students were challenged to create works in drawing and painting that reflected cultural diversity and universal human rights values, using patterns, colors and symbols that evoke different traditions and personal narratives.
In an increasingly globalized world marked by social, political and cultural challenges, the school plays a fundamental role in promoting critical thinking and intercultural awareness. Through art, students not only explore their identity and backgrounds, but also develop a greater understanding of diversity and the importance of tolerance and respect for human rights.
This exhibition is not only a tribute to the work of Soheila Sokhanvari, but also a space for dialogue between cultural fusion and the role of art as a means of questioning and social transformation. Each work presented here is a testimony to the students’ creativity and their ability to visually interpret contemporary issues through a symbolic and poetic language.
We invite the public to reflect on the richness of interculturality and the importance of art in building bridges between different realities, reinforcing its essential role in education and in today’s society.
