Thursdays in the Moonlight in the center of Portimão

June 26 - September 11
Free

The city once again hosts the “Thursdays in the Moonlight” initiative, promoted by APCS – Portimonense Association of Commerce and Services, with the support of the Municipality of Portimão, in a measure to boost the local economy and diversify the cultural offer, using for this purpose the “silver of the house”.

The second edition of “Thursdays in the Moonlight”, which takes place in a different way from its debut, but with the same objective, presents four special Thursdays, starting on June 26 and ending on September 11. The project is based on the idea of commerce out of doors, which is associated with the prolonged opening of commercial establishments, during extended hours, between 18:00 and 23:00, on four special nights: on June 26, July 31, August 21 and September 11. The “Thursdays in the Moonlight” will take place in four central spaces in Portimão, thus gaining prominence the emblematic Largo da Mó, in June, Praça da República (Alameda), in July, Rua do Comércio, in August, and Rua Direita, in September.

 June with Popular Saints

The first session of the “Thursdays in the Moonlight” initiative will be this month, on the 26th, with the evocation of the “Popular Saints”. Largo da Mó will be the stage for a popular night, with a parade of marches, sardines, strays, fado and traditional dance.

On this day, the performance of the fado singer Luana Velasquez and the ball with Filomena Batista also stand out, in addition to the parade of the marches of Glória ou Morte. A participatory game for the community created by the project [CAL-DAY-RAH-DAH] will be a constant throughout the four dates.

Lusophone sounds in July

The following month, this event takes to the streets on the 31st, in Alameda, under the motto “Tropicália”. The open-air party atmosphere will be complemented by music shows by Banda Atlântica and the “Chico Buarque no Feminino” project.

There will be no shortage of flavors of tropical cuisine, both in restaurants and street food, as well as an open Jiu Jitsu class and a DJ Set Tropical Worls Music.

“Rock N’Hortinha” and street art

On August 21, the proposal of “Quintas-feiras ao Luar” turns to an urban and alternative environment, in Rua do Comércio, with concerts by young local musicians, such as those of the “School of rock” project, RAPOSA and NVR + João Branco Rock n’Roll DJ Set.

The APCS project ends on September 11, at Rua Direita, with “Deleite Show”, which highlights a concert by Edgar Valente, a performative installation, a talk-show and creative sharing in the heart of the historic center.
