Cartaz unavoidable of the Algarve’s cultural proposals at this time of year, the celebration of the Popular Saints in Portimão represents the corollary of the dynamics that characterize the local associative movement.
The Marches and Popular Festivals of Portimão return throughout the month of June and promise to mobilize hundreds of people, thanks to the strong support of the associative movement. The participating Popular Marches have three collectivities – Sporting Glória ou Morte Portimonense, Sociedade Recreativa Figueirense and CIRM-Clube de Instrução e Recreio Mexilhoeirense and the Marcha da Vila de Alvor, organized by the Parish Council itself using the volunteering of the population.
Six parades are planned, always at 9:30 pm and in the following locations:
Portimão Arena – June 1st, at 9:30 pm;
Polidesportivo da Figueira – June 6, at 9:30 pm;
Alvor Riverside Zone – June 13, at 9:30 pm;
Praia da Rocha (St.ª Catarina Fortress) – June 20, at 9:30 pm;
Montes de Alvor Sports Pavilion – June 22, 9:30 pm
Portimão Riverside Area – June 27, at 9:30 pm;
Participation of invited marches:
Bensafrim March (Lagos), March of the Group of Friends of Pedreira Association and the Bordeira Popular March (Faro).
The
festivities of the Popular Saints will also be back at Praça da República (Alameda), between 19:00 pm and 01:00 am, with the following schedule:
7, 14, 21 and 27 June
In addition to the musical entertainment, food and drink stalls will operate on site, in charge of Sociedade Vencedora Portimonense, Clube União Portimonense, Clube Desportivo e Recreativo da Pedra Mourinha and Sporting Glória ou Morte Portimonense.
As usual, the celebrations of the Popular Saints are organized by the Municipality, together with the Parish Councils of Portimão, Alvor and Mexilhoeira Grande, and count on the enthusiastic commitment of the collectivities involved in the mobilization of hundreds of people of all age groups and social backgrounds.
