Music Laboratories – Wind Instruments

FreeThe Wind Music Laboratory is one of the 3 music laboratories, under the guidance of Johannes Krieger, which seeks to experiment with the different sounds of wind instruments, strong and soft sounds, bass and high sounds, contemporary experimental sounds and traditional music, games with music improvising sounds, but also composed and written music. Participants are invited to discover different ways to play in a group, in a large band or in a small ensemble.

Target audience: Amateur and professional musicians of wind instruments (woodwinds, brass winds and any type of harmonicas and/or cornetins). Participants must have basic experience in their instrument. You don’t need to know how to read sheet music, but those who know how to read sheet music are also very welcome.

Biography Johannes Krieger
He is a trumpeter, arranger and composer of musical projects of various types of music, namely, traditional music, ethnic music, pop and jazz. He is the founder of the Tora Tora Big Band and Chibanga Groove and directs the Reunion Big Jazz Band and the Jungle Orchestra. Throughout his stay in Portugal he has participated in projects such as Tito Paris, Vitorino, Danae & Os Novos Crioulos, Amélia Muge, Orquestra Todos, Orquestra de Jazz de Hot Clube, Mo ́Francesco and Yuri Daniel. Since 2017, she has been part of the dance project “Bacantes” by choreographer Marlene Monteiro Freitas. Recently, he participated in the plays “Paraíso”, by Madalena Victorino; and “What if we did everything again” by Madalena Victorino and Giacomo Scalisi. He has performed at festivals and concert halls in Germany, Austria, Belgium, France, Holland, Switzerland, Italy, Spain, Greece, England, Malta, Sweden, Norway, Poland, Ukraine, Thailand, Malaysia, Brunei, South Korea, Japan, Argentina, Brazil, Cape Verde, Mozambique, Botswana, Angola, Guinea-Bissau and Timor-Leste. He is a lecturer at the University of Évora in the disciplines of Trumpet-Jazz, Jazz Arrangement Techniques and Jazz Theory and Analysis.
The work developed within the scope of these MUSICAL LABORATORIES will be presented at different moments of the artistic program of the Centenary of the City, namely in the Burial Ceremonies associated with the MUSEU DO TEMPO project and in the Commemorations of the Day of the City of Portimão, on December 11, 2024.
Artistic program: Lavrar o Mar – Cultural Cooperative for the celebration of the Centenary of the Elevation of Portimão to City (1924-2024), under a partnership established with the Municipality of Portimão.
