Annual conference and award ceremony of EMYA – European Museum of the Year Award 2024

Portimão will be the European capital of museums, hosting between May 1st and 4th the annual conference and the delivery ceremony of the EMYA Awards 2024, considered the most prestigious distinction in the field of European museology.

On the 1st of May, the Museum of Portimão will welcome the leading professionals in the sector; between the 2nd and 3rd of May, TEMPO – Teatro Municipal de Portimão will be the main stage of the conference, which has as its theme “Museums in search of social impact”, as well as the awards ceremony. scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on May 4.

The conference “Museums in search of social impact” proposes to be a space for dialogue, discussion and sharing of experiences, ideals and projects of innovation and cooperation on the impact of museums and their professionals.

Through various presentations and panel discussions, interviews and workshops, the event will also be a privileged moment of debate and reflection on the multiple visions, missions and potential of European museums, not only in the present, but in the future horizon, as part of the continuous international museological evolution.

For two days, museums will have the opportunity to present themselves, revealing their dimension as dynamic, historically and socially relevant spaces and irreplaceable structures in the cultural and scientific domain, as well as addressing their strategies for better accessibility, proximity and social and community inclusion, based on European democratic principles and values.

Registration to participate in the event is now open, and interested parties must register for this purpose by April 21, by filling out the registration form available HERE.

Organised by the EMF – European Museum Forum, in collaboration with the Council of Europe, the 47th edition of the prestigious awards has 50 nominees from 24 European countries, including three Portuguese candidates (Covilhã Museum, Royal Treasure Museum and Rua dos Correeiros Archaeological Centre), and will bring together the MYA community, including former candidates and winners, partners, jury members and friends, as well as this year’s nominees.

Given the great diversity of museums present, this is an excellent opportunity to learn about the uniqueness and relevance of each one, the dimension of their good practices, the ways of relating to the public and the main challenges they face.
