“All cities are (also) imaginary” and set the tone for “Blue Summer”

July 6 - July 27

Free

For the fourth consecutive year, the Manuel Teixeira Gomes Municipal Library promotes on the four Saturdays of July the cycle of literary gatherings Verão Azul, which in this edition will focus on the theme “All Cities Are (also) Imaginary Cities”.

Inspired by the title of the book “Agosto Azul”, by the writer from Portimão, and former President of the Republic, Manuel Teixeira Gomes, this outdoor initiative will once again take place in the floral and pleasant environment of Jardim 1º de Dezembro, aiming to promote the book and the reading of reference authors of current Portuguese literature.

The cycle, which this year is part of the city’s centenary commemoration program, also provides the enjoyment of the garden where it takes place, valuing it as a space of sociability and conviviality in the heart of Portimão.

This year’s meetings aim to inspect reality through the lens of the literary imagination, because a city – especially a centenary one – is not only a physical and concrete place, but also a territory made in the way it is invented on a daily basis.

To address the proposed topic, in sessions scheduled for 6:30 pm, the following writers were invited: Matilde Campilho and Susana Moreira Marques (July 6); Afonso Cruz and Joana Bértholo (July 13); Francisco José Viegas and Gonçalo M. Tavares (July 20); Lídia Jorge and Ana Margarida de Carvalho (July 27).
