24th Portimão Photo Race

May 18 - July 18

This year’s Portimão Photo Race evokes the city’s first centenary, challenging participants to capture images inspired by the literary work of Manuel Teixeira Gomes.

This Race starts on the 18th of May, from the Museum of Portimão and the challenge will test the creativity and individual interpretation of the participants, based on six small excerpts, taken from the literary work of Manuel Teixeira Gomes, which will serve as a pretext and inspiration for the three photos to be recorded by each suggestion. A total of 18 original photographs.

The images must be photographed, mandatorily, in the geographical and thematic space of the municipality, which covers the parishes of Portimão, Alvor, Mexilhoeira Grande.

The registration and collection period for the themes related to the 24th edition of the Portimão Photographic Race will last until July 18, since many participants, from other parts of the national territory, may not be available to be in the city next Saturday.

Thus, each participant must proceed, between May 18 and July 18, to the respective in-person registration at the reception of the Museum of Portimão (Tuesday from 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm and between Wednesday to Sunday from 10:00 am to 5:30 pm) and confirm the six themes to be photographed, meanwhile disclosed in the regulation.

The following monetary prizes will be awarded to the best sets of images: 1st prize – 1,100 euros; 2nd prize – 900 euros; 3rd prize – 600 euros; 4th prize – 400 euros.

The winning works and the best photographs of each theme will be part of the usual group exhibition, which this year will be exhibited at the Museum of Portimão from September.

The 24th Portimão Photographic Race has the support of the following entities: CLCC – Center for Languages, Culture and Communication, Restinga, GAMP – Group of Friends of the Museum of Portimão, ANAFA – Association of Photographers of the Algarve and Sul Informação.
