Portimão’s bandstand was the venue for parties, concerts and official ceremonies for almost four decades. Built with the intention of commemorating the elevation of Portimão to city status, it represents the economic power of the Portimão bourgeoisie, who had a taste for music and culture. Demolished in the early 1970s, it was rebuilt 40 years later, as called for by the people. Today it is a symbol of their collective memory and an integral part of Portimão’s culture and heritage.
